Overview:
As part of Dubai indomitable spirit, the Maritime City stands as massive achievement of mankind’s harnessing & development of natural environments in the construction of one of the world’s leading land reclamation projects.
The City is construction upon a man made peninsula of over 2 million square metres, with the vision of providing amenities, businesses, and maritime services which will be so un paralleled as to represent the very best the world can offer for any maritime industry anywhere in the world.
The layout of the City provides a relaxed combination of property types including a serviceable quayside access stretching nearly 3000 metres. State of the art Offices stand alongside exclusive harbour side residences, boarded to the South West by the City campus and Industrial precinct.
In creating such a massive project the intense focus on low carbon foot print and use of eco friendly materials has helped to create a nature-centric, low waste development, sympathetically designed and built to balance Dubai’s vision of the future and it’s relationship with the sea.
Points of interest: With such an amazing array of developments and projects in Dubai, each hub & district offers any other an opportunity to just gaze in wonderment as well as to glimpse possibilities of the future. The Maritime City is well located fairly central to everything else that is going on in Dubai. The main port of Dubai is a stones throw away to the East, and offers an eclectic mix of traditional lifestyle, food & architecture mixed with the new.
Located in the Gulf waters there are numerous Diving Schools offering amazing excursions, although due to the extensive dredging work visibility tends to be poorer close to Dubai. This will improve in the near future as development work settles down and trips further a field will provide the excitement needed in the meantime.
The Dubai Maritime City is divided into five main areas:
-
The Industrial Precinct to the SW will provide an expanded berthing arena where ship and yacht construction and repair will take place
-
The Academic Quarter, located within the Campus in the heart of the development, will allow for all manner of marine based study, from Marine Biology to Naval science
-
The Maritime Centre is located at the tip of the peninsula & will accomodate main maritime businesses from all over the world
-
The Harbour Residences will offer exclusive high and mid rise tower accommodation set in beautifully landscaped gardens, all serviced by an extensive harbour side for yacht owners, and promenade from which to take in the views of the sea and mainland Dubai
-
The Harbour Offices are the eyes and ears of the City, linking this world class development with the maritime needs of the main Dubai port and Dubai mainland
Location: Dubai Maritime City neighbours the main Port Rashid which stands at the mouth to the Dubai Creek. From the peninsula the Jumeirah Beach Road is just 1 km away and the Dubai International Airport is about a 10 min drive.

-

Getting to Dubai Maritime City by air: For UK travellers the best advice is to stick to the main airports of Manchester, Birmingham, Heathrow, & Gatwick. Which operator you chose will depend upon needs but Emirates offer direct economy flights. KLM & Air France are also a possibility but may require change overs. BA, & Brunei Airways are two other operators worth looking at.
Climate: Dubai can be an extremely hot location with daytime summer highs of 40 degrees Celsius. The mainland can of course be hot and arid. The benefit of the Dubai Maritime City is that lying off the coast will provide cooling sea breezes by day and land breezes by night.
Terrain: Together with the Dubai World and the Dubai Palm developments, the Maritime City is a massive land reclamation project, sitting relatively close to sea level. The good news is that the area is seen as being very stable geologically as is so far away from the nearest seismic fault as to pose virtually no threat. The shallow Gulf waters have allowed such projects as these to take place, and as such the waters around Dubai pose no threat of Tsunami.
