Brits choose France over Spain

France has shown to be more popular wIth UK property buyers this year than other country, toppling Spain to second place so far in 2009, according to a report by Conti overseas mortgage specialist.

The report shows that the total amount of mortgage enquiries received from residents in the UK, nearly a third were directed toward a property in France while Spain received just 22%. Other European destinations such as Turkey, Portugal and Italy continue to be popular.

A company spokeman believes that in the current financial market UK buyers are looking for security in investment and not necessarily the fast return on income previously enjoyed. What has also no doubt helped is that it is still possible, in some cases, to borrow up to the full value of the property in Fance.
