Brits told to take care with Spanish property

Brits told to take care with Spanish property

The British Embassy are keen to remind UK citizens looking to buy a property in Spain to use a registered agent familiar with Spanish property law to ensure a hassle free property purchase.

The Spanish property market has for many years now been popular with Brits looking to buy a home in the sun and with prices today up to 50 per cent lower than just a few years ago UK property investors are back in force.

In the past, thousands of British buyers have fallen foul of planning regulations when buying a property in Spain due to unscrupulous operators looking to make a quick sale.

Alex Brown, a property advisor at the British Embassy, said that while measures have been introduced by the Spanish government to clean up the country’s property industry the system is completely different to the one used in the UK and potential buyers should always use a qualified agent or legal representative when searching for their dream holiday home in order to protect ownership of their new home in the sun.
