Minister promises support for housebuilders
At a recent conference in London Grant Shapp, government housing Minister, recommended a phase of price stability across residential housing in the UK property market to allow current and future generations the flexibility of joining the property ladder.
Home affordability is of great concern to many in the industry and Shapps suggested that buying a property should first and foremost be seen as a home rather than just an investment opportunity.
2009 was a terrible year for residential developers with the lowest amount of new properties being built since the early 1920's as a result the Minister announced government support for UK housebuilders by eradicating some of the red tape involved in construction.
While the industry welcomed the Minister's comments they are eager to hear details of the new planning system and clarification on policies so that housing starts can improve.
