Number of UK DIY house builders set to build
Research reveals that almost half of the UK population dream of one day building their own home, but many people are unsure of how to get going.
Last year almost 14,000 new self-built properties joined UK property stocks and experts believe that figure will climb in coming years. The proportion of self-build projects remains low when compared to other nationalities but Housing Minister Grant Shapps believes the time has come for the market share to build.
A report produced by the National Self Build Association suggests a massive rise in the amount of UK mortgages that will be on offer to those residents hoping to build their own home over the next few years.
Last week the Minister announced a new help package designed to smooth the way forward for those households wishing to build their new home. Shapps suggested a budget of £150,000 would, in most cases, enable a three/four bedroom house to be built – a hefty saving when compared to the average cost of £232,000 from a new homes developer.
