Plans to develop UK’s self-build sector

The self-build sector of the UK property market received a boost earlier this week with the naming of the country’s first ever dedicated large scale self-building community.
Housing Minister Grant Shapps has plans in place to encourage growth in this sector of the UK property industry which includes a multi-million pound fund dedicated to help double the size of the self-build sector.
The Minister has worked with local councils to identify previously used public sector land that is ideal for self-build projects involving groups of local people looking to work together to build their own dream home.
Seven sites throughout the country have already been identified and the largest site which is big enough to accommodate 60 homes is in Trevenson Park, Pool, Cornwall – the other locations are Bristol, Hemel Hempstead, Bolsover, Surrey, Stoke-on-Trent and Milton Keynes.
Industry experts applaud the government backed programme and believe it will help thousands of potential self-build enthusiasts realise their dreams.
