Postal dispute continues in UK
More strikes are planned for this week and next in the continuing battle between postal workers and the Royal Mail.
Two more walk-outs across Britain are planned by the Communication Workers Union for Friday 6th November and Monday 9th November unless further discussions this week achieve a settlement agreeable to both sides of the dispute.
Negotiations over jobs, pay and modernisation plans have been chaired by Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC, and he believes both sides show sincere intentions of wanting to build a better relationship in moving forward in the interests of the service and of the Royal Mail employees.
Over 29 million items of mail were trapped in the recent strikes, it is believed they have now been cleared but it is feared another 35 million could be delayed by the threat of further strike action.
A Royal Mail spokesman said agreement had been reached in some areas but that resistance to modernisation in certain parts of the UK were the stumbling block.
