Renewed hope for condemned Spanish property owners
Desperate British expats at the centre of a Spanish property scam may have been thrown a lifeline by local officials in the Axarquila region.
Thousands of homes, many owned byBritish investors, have been ruled as illegally built properties and were destined for demolition leaving their owners with nothing but hefty legal bills derived from lengthy court battles fighting to overturn demolition orders.
The properties, said to have been bought in good faith, were built with planning permission granted by corrupt town hall politicians during the last decade only to be later ruled as unlawful by regional planning bossess.
In recent days a meeting held by the housing dept and mayors from the region has resulted in plans to introduce approval for the properties to be recognised as officially acceptable which will keep them safe from the bulldozers.
