
Overview: The beautiful small town of Zafarana, in the region of Al Bahr al Ahmar, Egypt is on the coast between Cairo and Hurghada – just over 100 miles from each. The Egyptian government has, in the recent years, set up initiatives to create tourist resorts in Zafarana and these have been focusing on it's increasing popularit as a dive destination. It is very much the newest dive location in Egypt and boasts what are known as 'virginal' diving - three un-damaged reefs only 50 metres from the beach which have never been commercially dived. The waters are pristine and host a huge variety or marine life including dolphin, barracuda, sponges and coral. It is now considered to be one of the premier diving locations in the world. There are numerous off-shore wrecks which qualified divers can access via the many small boats available. However,
Zafarana (Zafaranah) is a village that many non-dive tourists to Egypt pass through to reach the nearby monasteries of St. Anthony and St. Paul. In addition to the dive centre, dive school, dive shop and dive safaris, the resort of Zafarana offers a marina, golf course, fitness centre, swimming pools, shops and restaurants.
